Make-up was first invented in Egypt
around 4000 B.C. . It was first created to protect the wearers’ facial features
and also to improve their appearance “dramatically”. Human cosmetics had been around for as many
as 6000 years. Many believed that woman
wore make-up just as a ritual in their human culture. Over time it developed more as a necessity in
the appearance of women and their everyday life. In the beginning of the twentieth century,
make-up began to become more popular in
the united states and Europe. Owing most
of the influence to the ballet and theatres of the Arts, once women began
seeing celebrities wearing make-up to enhance their appearance, most women felt
as though they should wear it also. Make-up became an optional way for women to alter their appearance to bring out their natural beauty.
After the earlier twentieth century
the cosmetics epidemic blew up immediately.
More and more products began developing and it created a money thirsty
industry. Make-up companies began
creating advertisements and commercials telling women that if they did not wear
make-up they were not true women. Some
young teens and women feel today that if they do not participate in wearing
make-up that they are not appealing to the human eye. Many girls also feel that by wearing heavier
make-up you are covering up your natural beauty.
When younger females are asked how
they feel when they wear make-up they say that they personally feel more
confident in their appearance. However
not every young teenage girl believes in wearing make-up. Some girls say that make up when used
carefully is a way to enhance a females natural features, but when done
incorrectly could do the absolute opposite.
Reasons why some females feel as though they look better with make-up is
that they are able to disguise their imperfections. Some girls begin wearing make up to
soon. Students when surveyed regarding
what age would be appropriate to start wearing make-up , answered eighth grade
or even freshman year. The average age
for a girl to start wearing make-up in today’s generation is eleven to twelve
years old.
Although
I did not start wearing make-up until I was 13, it was still an extremely young
age. Like many young teens I obviously
did not know how to apply make up properly. Basically I did more harm than good. I looked like a raccoon! After a couple months of my awful make-up
habits my mother finally brought me to a make-up counter in a professional
store to show me how to apply make- up correctly and age appropriately. Many girls when surveyed believe that many
young females need to learn the appropriate ways to apply make-up and how it
could look if not done correctly .A lot girls say that when too much make-up is
applied to the face, you could achieve a “cake” like appearance which just
entails that the make-up looks extremely heavy.
Make-up
for some females is a way for them to feel more confident in their appearance
and are able to bring out their natural beauty and camouflage their
imperfections. Although, some students,
when interviewed expressed how some females go too far with their make-up and
how much that they apply. One student
when interviewed explained , “Girls who do wear make-up in high school and
middle school just want to make it an obvious conclusion that they are wearing
more make-up than they need to just to make it appear obvious that they are
wearing make-up.” Another student added
and said, “ Make-up doesn’t give you “super powers” it is just supposed to enhance
what you’ve got.”
Some girls at a young age become too
eager to wear make-up, although the older you get your “bag of tricks” always
seem to get a bit bigger. For myself I
enjoy make-up and can almost look to it as a hobby. Researching what make-up brands are the best
but also the cheapest and reviewing them online. I also believe that it’s a females own
opinion how much make-up that they should wear.
Some days I wear a lot and some days I wear very little. It all depends
upon persons’ style and basically what they are into.
After becoming more interested in the
subject of cosmetology, I began doing my friends make-up for fun and buying different
styles of make-up that looked good on me and others. After doing this for a while I began learning
how to properly apply make-up.
Many teenage girls like myself look
to celebrities for inspirational make-up looks.
Celebrities wear a lot more
make-up than the average teenage girl so many younger girls beginning to wear
make-up with compare themselves to what celebrities look like and how they were
their make-up and hair. As teenagers develop their own styles as they become
older, they will figure out what make-up styles look best and they will
continue with their own personal styles.
I find that using the looks of celebrities and tweaking it to fit my own
style is what works best for me.
Make-up is a way for women of any
age to feel beautiful in their own way no matter how that they wear. The amount
of make-up a female wears will slowly develop into their own unique style as
they progressively get older. Once a
female knows how to apply their make-up properly they will have their own
make-up routine in which they will follow almost every day. Make-up is a way for a female to feel unique and have their own individuality.
